Sidewalk Inspections & Repairs

Repair and maintenance of sidewalks throughout the Borough are the responsibility of the property owner. The Borough conducts a Borough-wide inspection of our sidewalks to ensure that they are being maintained to current Borough Code.​ The initial Borough-wide sidewalk inspection was expected to begin by Spring of 2023 but has been postponed.

After an initial systematic inspection of sidewalks, inspections are anticipated to occur every five (5) years thereafter.  Sidewalk repairs will be examined BEFORE concrete pouring, in addition to final inspection, to ensure that it is in compliance with the current safety standards and Borough Code and to inspect any cuts or damage to shade tree roots.

If your sidewalk is deemed to be in need of repair, you will receive a copy of the “Sidewalk Inspection Form” which will indicate the type of violation and the specifications and options for repair. If you are not home at the time the inspection takes place you will find the inspection form taped to your door. You can download a sample of the inspection document below:

If Your Sidewalk Was Inspected & Cited for Replacement

DEADLINES: Repairs must be made no later than ten (10) months from the date of the inspection.  

REMEMBER: You must obtain a building permit from the Borough prior to beginning any sidewalk repair work. If the permit has been applied for as a result of the inspection AND applied for within the 10 months, then the permit  fee is waived.
